Katy grew up in Southern California where she learned how to surf cold waves, sit patiently in freeway traffic, and wield a paintbrush. She holds a BFA and MFA in Illustration and is a professional contemplator of God and (human) nature.
In August of 2011, she moved to Florida to teach in the Illustration Department at Ringling College of Art and Design. During her (almost) 10 years there, she served
as Interim Co-Chair for three semesters and had the opportunity to teach abroad in Italy. In her spare time,
she found a new passion for collecting butterflies,
painting clouds, and kayaking with alligators.
In June of 2021, Katy moved to Colorado to serve as the Head of Illustration at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Not only were the mountains calling, but also a desire to landscape paint with colors other than blue and green.
Katy's love for art and the natural world, combined with her experience as an educator, has influenced her aesthetic and career. She has an imaginative, playful yet reverent approach to her subjects. Her favorite part about being an artist is learning new things, visually exploring concepts through storytelling, and sharing her discoveries with others.
